To promote the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting, honoring, and caring for the elderly, and to enrich the spiritual and cultural lives of rural elderly communities, the International EducationSchoolorganized a volunteer photography activity for seniors in Li Family Village, Fengqiu County. On January 2, 2025, Yan Chicheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the International EducationSchool, led a team of 9 members, including faculty and student Party members and college volunteers, to Li Family Village under the guidance of Li Chunchun, the university-appointed first secretary of the village. The activity provided free photography services for elderly residents aged 60 and above, showcasing the charm of the silver-haired generation and conveying warmth and care.
During the event, dozens of elderly villagers arrived at the village committee office in an orderly queue, waiting for their photos to be taken. Volunteers actively maintained order on-site and enthusiastically assisted the elderly with registration procedures. Considering the cold weather, the volunteers thoughtfully provided warm water and other essentials.
Initially, some elderly participants appeared reserved in front of the camera. However, with the volunteers’ patient guidance and encouragement, they gradually relaxed and displayed bright smiles. The atmosphere was lively and joyful, filled with laughter. The volunteers dedicated themselves to interacting with and guiding the elderly, ensuring everyone’s active participation. Each face radiated happiness and contentment. For elderly individuals with limited mobility, volunteers offered gentle assistance and care, scheduling specific times for their photo sessions. For those with severe mobility challenges, photographers and volunteers visited their homes to conduct personalized shoots. During these home visits, the team demonstrated exceptional professionalism and compassion. They meticulously adjusted angles and lighting to capture the most natural and authentic expressions of the elderly. Additionally, they attentively listened to the seniors’ preferences and requests, striving to create cherished memories.
This community service initiative provided free photography services to 57 elderly residents. It not only brought joy and warmth to rural seniors but also nurtured a sense of social responsibility among young university students, inspiring more people to engage in elderly care initiatives and collectively build a compassionate and caring society.
