Under the careful instruction of two teachers, Li Peng and Guo Dongguang from the School of Life Sciences and Basic Medicine, our School’s students innovation and start-up competition program "Hog Health-Early and Rapid Diseases Test at Hog Farms" and "New Technique for Rapid Clenbuterol Test"---Let us eat quality assured meat" won the 3rd prize in the Internet + College Students Innovation and Start-up Competition in Henan Province.
The China International Internet + College Student Innovation and Start-up Competition program is to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important reply to the China Internet + College Students Innovation and Start-up Competition “Youth’s Red Dreams Building”. Following the Notice of Ministry of Education to Hold the 6th China International Internet + College Students Innovation and Start-up Competition (JGH [2020] No. 5), in order to further promote and deepen the education reform on innovation and start-up in colleges and universities, accelerate the cultivation of talents concerned, and stimulate continuously students' enthusiasm for innovation and start-up, encourage the start-up for employment, and build a platform for college students to connect innovation and start-up programs with social resources, the 6th China International Internet + College Students Innovation and Start-up Competition will be co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Guangdong People's Government in 2020, and organized by South China University of Technology, Guangzhou Municipal People's Government and Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, where 117 countries and regions, 1.47 million programs of 4,186 colleges and universities, 6.31 million people applied to compete, there are many highlights and many things to watch.
A total of 450 college students' innovation and start-up programs were submitted for competition by our School. After primary selection, intensive training, and expert evaluation in our School, 13 programs were recommended to participate in the provincial competition. After three-month hot competition, 6 programs of our School won prizes, including 1 second prize and 5 third prizes.
Two teams winning prizes of the 2018 and 2019 Biotechnology (co-organized) in our School include programs leaders Tan Donghe (2018) and Guo Zanying (2019), and 11 students as Peng Shiyuan, Guan Hongli, Cheng Jinyang, Du Lanjun and Wang Jintao. The team members actively participated in the scientific research and experiment in their spare time, under the leading of two instructors, though facing hardships, after several months of hard work, they finally completed the research on the test methods of serious infectious diseases in hog farms and the new technique for clenbuterol test, which won the third prize of Internet + College Students Innovation and Start-up Competition in Henan Province.
The activity has accumulated rich experience for students in our School to enter college students' innovation and start-up competitions like this in the future, broadening students' horizons and promoting the further development of practical teaching.
