May 21, the 1st English speech contest was held successfully by the School of International Education with the theme "Forge ahead on the road of reform, keep in mind the mission and revitalize China" in the A-05-1107 Conference Hall. Nearly 200 teachers and students from the School of International Education watched the contest. Judges of the contest include Prof Yun Deyu, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, Dr. Milica, and teacher Li Wenjing, as well as other leaders of the School and guests. 13 undergraduates and junior college students including Lyu Weiwei, Yuan Ye, Liu Ning, Ren Leyao and more from the School of International Education, School of Journalism and Communication and School of Educational Sciences entered the contest.
Closely focusing on the theme "Forge ahead on the road of reform, keep in mind the mission and revitalize China", 13 competitors told stories about China with vivid language, vivid examples and full of enthusiasm. The students’ sentences of language and words express sincere feelings towards the Party and the motherland, and show the vigor and high-spirited appearance of young students in the new era, which deeply inspired the audience. The wonderful speeches of the competitors pushed the competition to a climax again and again, winning rounds of applause from the audience.
In the end, Du Yifei won the first prize; Lu Xing, Lyu Weiwei and Zhou Yufei won the second prize; Qian Yifan, Ren Leyao, Liu Bingyang, Yuan Ye and Liu Ning won the third prize; Huang Yifan, Zhao Yijie, Ning Xin and Song Ge won the Excellence Award.
The English speech contest made young students deeply understand the glorious history and significance since the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 41st year since the reform and opening up. With rich and interesting contents and rigorous and regular formats, the contest, themed "Forge ahead on the road of reform, keep in mind the mission and revitalize China", builds a platform for students to demonstrate their abilities and create a better atmosphere to learn English.
